POVERTY REDUCTION
In spite of the recent economic boom, India suffers from substantial poverty. Nearly 25% of the nation's population earns less than the government-specified poverty threshold of $0.40/day. Uneven wealth distribution, urban growth patterns which exclude rural areas, slow rate of overall industrialization, diminishing employment opportunities owing to lack of education are just some of the reasons.
The states need to spread awareness about the importance of education in leading a life away from poverty and create more and more employment avenues through systematic industrialisation, increased private sector participation and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Some of the parameters considered here are below poverty line population, percent of below the line population and rate of malnutrition in children.
